Inspired by Lake House Living

August 31, 2016

Hi friends –

I just got back from some much-needed R&R on Lake Michigan, and I’m already reminiscing about living the lake life.

We had a blast boating and swimming on the lake during the day, catching up on reading during lazy afternoons, and retreating to the outdoor seating area for dinner. We enjoyed the beautiful views of the sun setting over the lake while spending time with family and friends. The stillness of the water and the traditional-meets-modern design was the perfect atmosphere for a laid back gathering, and exactly what we were hoping for. There’s just something about the calming landscape, the cozy architecture and relaxed lifestyle that makes a lake house so desirable.

Unlike a waterfront beach house with crisp, cool design and an airy look and feel, a lake house can evoke a sense of warmth and lived-in charm. With the right treatment, exposed beams and natural elements like stone, fur and leather give a sense of cabin-like appeal. Transitioning from lazy summer days to cool summer nights is easy with loads of plush seating, layers of texture and plenty of places to relax.

Pairing vintage pieces with modern silhouettes, artwork and fabrics adds character and charm to a lake house – the space will feel both collected and chic. The most important part to decorating a lake house, though, is making sure that there’s plenty of space for hanging out with guests — because isn’t that what lake living is all about after all?
